This point served as the origin for all Struve’s observations relating to the Geodetic Arc. Struve used a point under the centre of the observatory’s cupola, which has not been preserved.

Excellent lectures from time to time, a nice little museum of astronomy, a small planetarium upstairs and a viewing platform at the top.

Such a lovely place. You can check out events from their homepage or visit yourself. It's on nice Toome hill, good to take a walk also.

The old Tartu Observatory is known internationally for its connection to Friedrich Georg Wilhelm von Struve and the Struve Geodetic Arc, of which it is the first reference point.
