Thanks to saw operator for telling me this. Hopefully the signage now explains this very sensible reason. Btw - if you need to saw stuff, they sell saws too.

we don't cut planks cause the slip through the fence and can injure the operator!!! regards, the saw operator

despite them having a big effing saw, they don't cut planks to size. shame really. they're fine with boards though
