This metro station was not designed as a bomb shelter as other posters have alluded to. The tunnel is deep because of a valley in the terrain. The tunnels are avoiding the Potomac.

On the escalators, if you hold the hand rail in the same place it'll be further forward when you reach the top.

This metro stop was designed to shelter from bombs. Expect to go way, way down on the escalator to reach the station.

Very long escalator, drops you off in the heart of the downtown area. Can get pretty windy, because of the Potomac.
