I love that this is such a big station. I agree on the suggestion of the last tip here though. There IS a tendency for people to shove, push and sometimes punch just to get in the train.

If you're going to north around 6pm - 9pm wkdays and 5pm - 9pm Sat. Try trains to taft ave., Do not get off. When it reaches the last station, a guaranteed seat to north comes your way. At least!lol
